We’re not haters, really! Just because for centuries, we’ve specialized in the ultimate green building material (namely, authentic lumber) doesn’t mean we’re opposed to manufactured building materials, altogether. We admit it: We’re all about tropical hardwoods and completely against the composite decking materials that we’ve seen so far. After all, we could expand or transition our company to include or highlight composites, if we wanted to. But there are good reasons why, until recently, we’ve chosen otherwise. There are also some equally good reasons we’ve expanded our wood-only collection of products to include NuCedar products.

Truly Green Products

First of all (and possibly most importantly), many manufactured building materials are far from being green. NuCedar products are revolutionary in that they are completely comprised of PVC. That means that they’re manufactured with environmentally friendly processes, and they’re 100% recyclable and won’t end up taking up landfill space for hundreds of years.

NuCedar also boasts longevity, compared to many manufactured building materials, which lessens their environmental impact, as well. (Builders will be interested to know that using NuCedar products corresponds with LEED-qualifying design values, too.) Used as an alternative to Cedar shingles, wood siding, moulding, and trim, we’re pleased to be able to promote NuCedar products.

Durable & Low Maintenance

For customers, the lack of durability and the high maintenance required by many composite materials make them much less preferable, on a practical level. The reason why NuCedar overcomes these hurdles? The finishing process they use is similar to automotive finishing, creating a product that, unlike many of their competitors, does not often require refinishing.

To support its claims to durability, NuCedar siding comes with a 25-year transferrable warranty — an unusual and valuable add-on, to be sure!

Natural Beauty

Unlike many similar products, which are poured into a mold, NuCedar products are actually milled, just like lumber. The resulting appearance simulates wood to a great degree — in other words, it’s beautiful! When you add in the fact that it comes in any of 18 colors and is prefinished in a durability-enhancing way, continually portraying a freshly-painted appearance, you know you’ve got an outstanding winner. In addition to the variety of color choices available, customers can choose from smooth or rough-sawn textures for both shingles and siding.

Simplified Sub-Contracting

Whether you’re the builder or the homeowner, the fact that this product comes already pre-finished means that you’ll spend less time and money waiting for a sub to come paint or stain after your product is installed. For customers, add in the savings from not having to repeat such finishing in a few years. For contractors, consider the simplicity of giving a quote.

I guess you could say that J. Gibson McIlvain Lumber is branching out into unknown territory, but we couldn’t be more thrilled to now offer these premium exterior products from NuCedar Mills.
