Hardwood Plywood from the Pros

May 18, 2012 By Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

J. Gibson McIlvain can be your one-stop wholesale lumber dealer. In addition to our expert millwork operation and premium hardwood and softwood offerings, we also carry a wide selection of premium hardwood plywood.

There are many benefits of using a single source for all your wholesale lumber needs. For one thing, you can save valuable shipping costs by combining your hardwood, softwood, millwork, and hardwood plywood orders for a single project, or even for multiple jobs. This alone can mean a bundle of savings, but other perks exist, as well. For instance, once you know you can trust a single company, you can alleviate the stress and sometimes time-consuming and even project-halting issues that come up when you find your order sub-par. In addition, you can eliminate the trouble of having to communicate your project specifications with multiple lumber wholesalers, saving you valuable time and effort that could best be spent elsewhere — perhaps bidding or beginning your next big project.

By using plywood instead of solid hardwood for some applications, you may increase the longevity of your project. Because of its stability, plywood isn’t affected by changes in humidity or temperature. Because related movement isn’t an issue, it’s ideal for tightly fit applications, like trapped door panels. Not having to worry about the panel expanding and cracking a frame or bowing out can be a definite plus. Another positive of using plywood is its size, lower cost, and matching capabilities. Typically sold in 4’-by-8’ sheets, it’s really the ideal material for wall paneling and kitchen cabinetry.

When you choose J. Gibson McIlvain as your source for hardwood plywood, you’ll receive nothing but the best materials in the industry. We stock a wide assortment of popular species, including exotic species like African Mahogany and Sapele. Domestic species do make up much of the most sought after-hardwood plywood, though, including Cherry, Natural Birch, Natural Maple, White Birch, White Maple, Red Oak, White Oak, and Walnut.

Our premium hardwood plywood comes in a variety of thicknesses, cores, and face veneer patterns. Thicknesses include ¼”, ½”, and ¾”. Cores can be MDF or Poplar or Fir veneer. Face veneer patterns include plain sliced, rotary cut, quarter sawn, and specialty sequence-matched-and-numbered variety, the first two options being the most popular for almost all species. You can mix-and-match any of those options for a custom product that’s perfectly suited to your specific applications. The kind of flexibility in product availability is something that helps many builders and woodworkers overcome the obstacles they face.

Regardless of the options you choose, all our hardwood plywood is built at a higher threshold of quality than many comparable materials. That means the cores are better, and the veneers have thicker faces. Typically, the face grades are better than HPVA requirements.

Once you see the kind of quality wholesale lumber we carry, you’ll be glad that all your lumber needs, including hardwood plywood, can be met through a single wholesaler — J. Gibson McIlvain.
