Swimming Pools definitely aren’t one-size-fits-all. Each pool owner has a different set of variables that need to be considered: yard space, intended use, budget, style, and more. You’ll want to consider all those factors as you determine the right pool size and shape to suit your personal needs. In a previous post on this topic, we considered 2 main categories of pool shapes: rectangular and round. Now we’ll look at some more elaborate shapes as well as unique sizes and styles.
Shape Category 3: Elaborate Pools
Within this category, we’ll look at 3 pool shapes: Kidney, Figure 8, and Freeform.
The Kidney pool is shaped like a bean; thus the name. The Kidney-shaped pool has become almost as popular as the Traditional Rectangular pool. This natural-looking shape is ideal for creating a more organic design and includes a nice little space that’s perfect for some outdoor furnishings, with easy access to either end of the pool.
Definitely a lesser-known option, the Figure-8 pool is a great fit for some spaces. Like the L-Shaped design we discussed in a previous post, the Figure-8 design is essentially 2 different pools. One could be used for relaxation and the other for play. The Figure-8 pool also allows for easy water circulation, creating a whirlpool effect. Adding a fountain can further enhance that effect.
A Freeform pool is exactly what you’d expect from a pool with such a name: this completely custom option allows you to create the pool shape that’s unique to your particular yard. Certainly a sign of luxury, the shape of the Freeform pool can be anything you want it to be.
Unique Pool Styles: Grecian Pools & Garden Tubs
Roman or Grecian pools are distinctive and grand, mimicking the opulence of the Roman baths, complete with extravagent arches and columns. Grecian pools are unique in that they include corner cut outs. These splendid swimming pool options require just the right setting and architectural design of a house to look right, but when they’re in a suitable setting, they definitely stand out!
Another unique style pool is the deep-seated Garden tub. This upscale amenity can also be called a soaking tub. Usually oval in shape, this large tub is a luxurious option for those with a small space who want something between a bathtub and a spa.
What swimming pool style and shape is right for you? That’s something that, ultimately, only you can decide. Once you do, you’ll want to decide on decking and other landscaping and structures. If you start with an overall ambiance and big picture and share that information, along with lifestyle, budget, yard, and other factors, a pool specialist will be able to help you determine which options seem most suitable for your needs.
